How to ratchet strap luggage to roof no rack.
You can attach a strap to anchor points as seen in the first image below.
Roof racks have been known to fail at high speeds with lots of updraft so take the extra precaution of tying the roof rack down to the roof of the vehicle as well.
Secure each end together and tie any slack to the rack.
Just as before wrap that end of the safety strap under the other side of the same roof bar.
Remove your rack when not in use to avoid the added weight drag and noise.
The former works for outdoor gear like hunting or camping equipment as it s easier to clean and the latter is good for protecting softer bags.
With the third option crossbars with side rails you can secure an item to the side rails and run tie downs from front to back securing them to the crossbars.
Again the ratchet strap is relatively simple once you ve learned the tricks and as long as you have at least two of them.
Lift up your board onto the foam pads.
Use tie down straps or ratchet straps to secure your luggage to the carrier.
Place the foam blocks carefully on the roof of your vehicle evenly apart.
On each side of the roof you ll see a rack that runs the length of the roof of the vehicle.
Bring that strap end around to the other side of the cargo.
Use ratchet or cam straps to tie the roof rack through the doors not the windows.
You can also wrap the straps beneath the crossbar on both sides of the vehicle and then tighten the strap buckles.
Get help if you need to lay the board facing down the fins upright.
