To release the tension from the spring allow the spring to unwind slowly by easing the pressure of your hand on top of it.
How to repair rv awning spring.
As you are cleaning go slowly because you don t want to damage the awning more.
With the help of a cleaner wipe all the dirt mold and mildew away.
Extend both awning rafter arms and lock them into place and tighten the hand screws.
Make sure to wipe the backside too.
Step 1 extend awning slightly.
Pin the opposite awning spring with a cotter pin.
Release the travel locks on the awning arms and release the cam lock if it still holds at all.
Insert a cotter pin through the inner shaft at the end tube to lock the spring.
Extend the awning out approximately 1 foot and prop it in place with the board for now.
I wish to stress again that when attempting rv awning repair the spring pressure must be controlled at all times.
This helps hold everything in place.
Step 2 lock spring tension.
Step 1 prepare to re insert the cotter pin.
When you release the tension in the spring the cotter pin that is inserted in the holes in the awning arms are removed.
Pulling will increase the tear or a hole.
The cotter pins are the ones that lock the spring tension securely while taking down the rv awning.
