Screw the bottom in place with rubber washered screws.

Squeeze out a bead of caulk beneath the shingles on both sides of the vent to hold the shingles down and to add a water barrier.
Install the ridge vent shingle over style install the ridge vent aluminum.
Overlap the shingles to cover the nails on the side edges and use roofing cement to cover the nail heads on the shingle at the end of the roof.
Remove the shingle caps.
Patch the nail or screw holes by slipping a piece of roof flashing underneath the shingle.
The vent manufacturers make their products to match the size of the cap shingles so the caps cover the vent material leaving.
There are a number of key steps you need to take to avoid mucking this part up.
If the shingles are severely damaged don t try to salvage them.
There will be nails across the top of the vent too.
Hammer a roofing nail on each side of the shingle five inches from the bottom edges and one inch from the side edge.
Cut and bend a shingle to conform to the shape of the peak of the roof.
Usually you can also work those loose without removing shingles.
Install new field shingles.
Pull the old flashing up over the vent pipe and scrape any old caulk and debris off the roof.
This is an area of the roof which requires extra care and skill.
Slide the new flashing over the vent pipe and under the shingles above the pipe.
Loosen the adhesive underneath the tabs of the damaged shingle then pull them free and discard.
Start by removing the nails holding the ridge cap shingles in place.
Just remove them and replace them with new shingles of a similar style to the rest of the shingles on the roof.
Slip a flat bar under the edge of the vent flashing and pop the nails up photo 1.
Cut the ventilation opening.
Loosen and remove the damaged shingles.
