As long as the gap is even on an interior door it shouldn t be why a door isn t closing properly.
Square wooden dowel rods can be purchased at lowe s about an inch thick.
The door gap to the floor should be 5 8 to 3 4 inch.
Open the door fully and slide on the door sweep at the bottom of the door.
We have a large gap under the front door also.
After we had the floors redone i built up a threshold out of a wooden one and an aluminum one from home depot trimming down the ends to fit the door frame and installed a vinyl door sweep.
You can fix this issue by tightening the hinges.
If tightening the hinges still doesn t correct the gap around the top and sides of the front door you can remove the screws and adjust the alignment.
If each room has individual air returns the numbers can be smaller for personal taste.
Wear and tear on older doors can eventually cause your front door to sag which means it falls out of alignment with the frame.
They have long adjustable sides that can be moved.

If you have a large gap at the bottom of your door that may be helping the door to stay plumb.
If you have a large gap beneath the door use a wrap around door sweep.
Maybe a few of those could fill the gap but the door would need to be taken off it s hinges to install them.
Hinge shims close the exterior door and look for the largest gap around the door.

Be careful not to overdo it and seal the door so that it can t settle with the rest of the house.
It should be measured from the floor surface to the bottom of the door.
This number is regardless of flooring.
