The attic isn t the only place rodents and other creatures seek shelter. Rats and mice are the most likely culprits for noises in your walls at night. If the noises are at night it is probably a raccoon rodent opossum or snake. Some pests get into the walls of your home.

If you hear thumping in your attic at night it s most likely a larger animal such as a raccoon or opossum engaged in jumping from one area of the attic to another actively shoving or destroying something or dragging something heavy. Their movement is also very fast. If you hear it at night primarily it is either mice raccoons bats or in some cases a flying squirrel. Sounds coming from your attic could be from a number of causes pipes settling wind but the most common cause is the presence of an animal or animals in the attic.

Noises at sunset will typically indicate bats. But attics are the favorite spot for wild animals.
