The gold sensor was good in low light foggy snowy conditions but if it did brighten up some i would get headaches quick.
If i got the two lenses you have i d add a low light lens such as blue sensor mirror.

However it should be noted that the gold sensor mirror is going to help you most in low light evening overcast while the regular sensor mirror is intended for flat light snow storms whiteout.

These pellicle mirrors reduce the amount of light travelling to the film plane or sensor and also can distort the light passing through them resulting in a less sharp image.
Smith is discontinuing this lens however and tried to replace it last year with the chromapop storm blue tint 50 vlt.
