How to line a garage roof.
Remove all of the shingles on the roof.
This includes building ou.
Check the ceiling for sagging by attaching a string on one end of the beam and run it along the bottom edge of the beam.
They form an upside down v with the point at the top of the addition roof.

Pry the shingle from the roof.
If the line does not continually follow the bottom of the beam and the bottom of the beam is below the line the beam is sagging.
Remove the jack quickly and set the iron onto the entire beam.
Drive the remaining carriage bolts into the two by six rafter and tighten them all up.
If you have a flat garage roof and an attic above you can install the garage insulation from below using a standard ladder.
Cut two rafters with a circular saw to the pitch of the addition roof and nail them across the rafters on the old roof.
However if you have a cathedral style garage roof you will need a scaffolding to get into the upper areas of the roof.
In either case you will need to follow the general steps below to insulate your garage roof.
The nails in the shingle should come up with the shingle when you pry it off.
Place a pitchfork flat garden shovel or shingle scraper under the shingle.
Place the jack back underneath the beam but this time under the iron piece.
