The hot neutral and ground wires.
How to switch hot and neutral wires in roof.
As mentioned above you will see many wires on the rear side of a motion sensor light switch.
The standard wiring configuration uses three cables or wires.
The hotwire the neutral wire and the ground wire.
110v on a runner hot wire goes into a switch then out to a light socket then through the lamp out the neutral side of the socket on the wire back to the neutral bus.
Now we shut off the light switch cut the neutral wire in two connect our meter to the ends of the cut wire turn the switch back on.
The neutral wires are spliced and a black wire connects to each switch terminal.
However you only need to use three in most applications.
This one just demonstrates where the power is in a circuit and where you can have a hot neutral.
Each plays an important role in getting electricity where it needs to go safely.
To connect the switches simply score the wire with your wire stripper and push the insulation to expose about 3 4 in.
Before doing so note that the mains lead is cut in two with one end being shorter than the other.
With power through wiring power enters the switch box.
The feed wire the hot wire coming from the service panel runs to the switch before it goes to the fixture.
The hot wire carries the power from your home s service panel to all of your light fixtures switches and outlets.
Now we are onto striping the wires soldering putting on the heatshrink and then wiring the switch.
Connect the last switch in the usual manner looping the wire around the screw in a clockwise direction.
In both cases i have used solder on the wire.
Instead of running a separate pigtail from the hot wire to each switch just leave the hot wire extra long.
Some of the wires are going to be directly joined together and the others put on the switch.
